Day 4: IYF World Camp 2010

I bet everyone felt so sad now that it’s the end of the Philippine World Camp. A lot of grandeur events happened today, and outsiders are also allowed to watch it. The Cuneta Astrodome was filled with more people than expected, and they all came to watch the beautiful Christmas Cantata by the Gracias Choir! :D

Anyway, funny things happened today. I have to carry out this mission, which is to get the e-mail addresses of my Korean friends and keep in touch, also to get to know this “translator boy”. Actually, I even prayed to God about this World Camp and about “translator boy”, and I really believe He heard my prayer. So the funny thing went like this!!

Start of Story:

  1. At Mini Olympics meeting in the Press Room, he was staring at me whenever I speak in English. Our eyes met in that room for more than 10 times, I shall say!
  2. I went out the Press Room by myself, and then he came out of the main hall by himself. We were like in perpendicular paths at first, then we both went to the wash room.
  3. At this staircase, I was telling Clarence and Erika about the chances/opportunities that the Lord does, then we decided to get out of that place. I said, “Labas na tayo, baka may mangyari pa.” The moment after I said that, here goes my crush approaching us. Then he talked to somebody ahead of us and walked straight ahead. We were at their backs and then all of a sudden, he looked at his back– he looked at us!– and then we looked at each other again for the nth time, then it’s as if he just used his friend who’s also at the back as an alibi to look at me (or not? HAHAHA). OF COURSE, I’M KIDDING!! I am not sure about the last part. LOL
  4. We went to the Registration booth to look for Jin, but he wasn’t there. But by the time we’re heading for GNC1, my crush and I saw each other AGAAAIN. He was alone, but I don’t have the courage to talk to him.
  5. And then when it was time for GNC1, he was the English translator for this Korean girl who’s telling her story. He sensed that the girl was about to cry, so he got the hanky out of his pocket and handed it to her. But the girl refused. (He handed it at the back so we can’t really see that he’s handing it to her; it was such a kind thing to do.)

And then I realized I wasted a lot of chance now.

So after GNC1, we all saw he was alone. My friends already helped me on this. Alyza approached him and said, “Excuse me,” and I bolted my heel and went where they were. I said, “Excuse me, uh, what does this salvation mean?” (Wrong question came out because I was startling and nervous.)

Him: You don’t know what salvation is?!
Me: No, what I mean is, what do these Xs and Os mean?
Him: Oh, the O is blah blah blah then X is blah blah blah
Me: Ah, alright, thank you! (And I was about to leave now)
Him: Oh wait, wait! The X is blah blah blah and O is blah blah blah
Me: I see. Okay, thank you!!

And then I explained them to my friends.

At the Main hall:

I was running to look for my friends because I was alone at the hall, then a Korean girl blocked me and said, “Please take your seat here.”
Me: No, no, I’m looking for my friends, they’re outside.
Her: Oh, okay!! (And she gave way)

Then at the middle part of the hall, my crush blocked me and said, “This way, ma’am”. I told him that I was looking for my friends and they’re outside, so he gave way. When I went outside, I saw my friends there and told them that we should go in or we’ll not have good seats left. And when Kat and I got inside first, my crush looked at us and said, “Take your seat, ma’am.” And we did. Oh, how formal! And the accent = <3

Who knew he would be seated in front of me? So we watched the whole Christmas Cantata and I kept on taking good pictures of them (I used Kat’s camera instead of mine), and being careful not to use the flash. My crush kept looking at the back and I don’t have any idea why. Suddenly, some people didn’t turn off their flashes and it was really distracting. He looked back again, and he told me, “Excuse me, did you not hear that you are not allowed to use flash?” (I had to lean forward to hear him, and I felt my friends suspicious gaze on us). So I told him:

Me: But I did not use any flash. It was from the back.
Him: (he stared like he absorbed my words) Oh, I’m sorry!! (Then he looked away)

For a while, I stopped taking pictures and just reviewed my shots. I was sort of panting. And while I was at it, he looked back at me smiling and said, “No offense, no offense!” and he’s doing a peace sign, so I said, “No” while grinning and raised my thumb to say it’s okay. I AM REALLY SOOO LAAAME!! 어리석다!!

After the program, I felt like God gave me His strength. I went to ask his name, introduced myself, and told him to write his Korean name and e-mail address in my notebook. He told me he knows one of the people who wrote there, and I asked him if he knows Sunhee. He said yes, but he said he didn’t know her e-mail. The he said he has Facebook, and I told him Thank you. He said welcome. Oooooohh task, DONEE!!!

Sunhee told me yesterday that her flight back to Korea will be at 1AM this day, as well as the other Koreans (Lincoln students and other volunteers). As much as we wanted to spend more time with each other, we just have to let go and go back to our own lives. It is hard if school year is different here than in the other places. I will surely miss them. :(

DAY 3: IYF World Camp 2010

Still the same routine as yesterday! But I didn’t wasn’t boring and I don’t want to go home even though I feel sleepy. Only 1 day left and it’s the end of the World Camp. Sunhee and other Koreans I met will already go home. I will surely miss them. :(

Anyway, I will just right here the excerpts from my diary by the time I was listening to the wonderful sermon of Pastor Park. So here it is:

2010.05.05
Right now, we’re listening to Pastor Ock-Soo Park’s story about marriage and divorce. I can’t do anything because by just listening, I might suddenly fall asleep. Actually, there were quite a few people sleeping already, both Filipino and Koreans! By the way, I am seated beside this weird guy who has yellow colored-hair. He kept on glancing to see what I am writing here. CUT! I just heard cool quotations from Pastor Park:

There are many men in the world but you’re the only one I love. Trust me. You’re the only one I want to marry. –From his sermon about marriage

I thought that he’d be happy if he’s on my side, but now it becomes different. I am a person who gives sadness to another. “I can’t live without you, believe me,” I said to her. She told me, “It’s not hard for me to forgive you because I told you that you’re the one I love. But why don’t you believe me?”

And then Pastor Park said that the demon sets our thoughts towards the evil ones. Thinking bad things without any further proof is not right. We should not always rely/believe that what our minds think is always RIGHT, because doing so is one of the 7 sins in the world: PRIDE.

And do you know about the 78-22 rule? It goes like this: 78% of the girls spend more money out of the boys’ salary. So a rule was set to avoid girls spending a lot of money through clothes, jewelries, etc. thus, cutting the salary of men. I forgot which place was this rule exploited! :) ) Pastor Park just said this again.

And to end the sermon quotations, I’ll give you a Tagalog one:

Ang matalinong babae ay hindi nagmamataas sa isang lalaki. Hindi tayo minamahal ng lalaki dahil maganda o matalino tayo, kundi dahil sa laman ng puso/kalooban natin.

A wise girl avoids being superior to a boy. We are not loved by boys because of our physical beauty or our intelligence, but we are loved because of our inner beauty/personaltiy

I just found out that my crush from The Righteous Stars is a student from Lincoln House. I hope Sun-Hee knows the guys name and this translator boy’s name~!

And I forgot to include, we attended the Rio Montaña singing class. We sang “I Believe” by Shin Seung Hun. Then one of them asked for girl volunteers to sing the song. I was the one chosen. I was so nervous, I sang the first line of the song in a stupid manner. But finally, I let go of my nervousness and I believe I sang well until the end. Such a nice experience! Kudos to Rio Montaña!! :D

DAY 2: IYF World Camp 2010

The camp continued and it is getting more wonderful each day! We have like a daily schedule/routine, and we get to listen and watch the Righteous Stars, Rio Montaña, Gracias Choir, cultural performances, and of course, the gospel from Pastor Park Ock-soo.

Today I came early because Mr. Nam told us to arrive at 8am. I got there by 7.45am and I was actually stuck with these Korean people in blue, and they are all Korean and I’m the only one in pink and a Filipino. But I kinda don’t look like one, ne? HAHA! Anyway, they were looking at me and I was looking at them hoping to find someone I know (unfortunately I can’t). Time passed, I saw Mr. Nam and greeted him, also these 3 Korean girls who took a picture of me and Kim Soung-woo. I met a new girl named Jenina while I was waiting, and then finally, they came. Mr. Nam held a meeting at the Press Room about some changes in schedule and this guy, my crush, was the one translating for him. His accent is so nice. Very nice. That’s all I focused at that time. ♥

The most enjoyable part was of course everything, but I like attending the Korean food class. For the first time, I get to experience making Kim-chi, and thankfully mine tasted good! We were able to take home some of our work and share it to our family. And then after that, we listened to another gospel by Pastor Park, and then we had a class meeting. Clarence and I were put in John 6 class and we had this heart-to-heart talk about God and the Bible with Kim Sun-hee. She is a 20-year-old university student and she is our class leader. It was good to actually talk with them and understand at the same time, no language barriers or anything. She shared her own experiences on how she was converted from Buddhist to Christian, and we shared opinions about the Bible. Also, Ji-in talked to us about this as well, and then it was time to go home.

On my way home, I asked Marie to go with me up the overpass because I’m afraid to cross alone. Until I saw this girl with the pink IYF shirt, I told her I could go up by myself and she could just stay there. So I went up. The girl ahead of me looked back, and we saw each other. Then she walked, then stopped and waited for me. “Hi!” she said in a happy voice, and I said, “Hello! Hey, you’re Bo-Ram right?” and she said yes. How lucky I am to be on my way home with the event’s emcee. We talked about where we go home, how we go home, how was the event, etc. Then she told me where I’d wait for the bus, and I said, “I’m waiting here too, buses go this way as well.” And then we waited for buses; she gets home by FX. And then I told her there’s already an FX and I made para to it for her. We exchanged goodbyes and see you tomorrow’s. And I’m home. :D

Side story:

So I have this Korean crush. We call him Translator Boy/Good News Boy/Korean Boy/Wow Ulam (DANG)/Paolo. I don’t know what it is but we kept on looking at each other and it seemed as if we’re shy or what (or maybe I’m the only one thinking this). Because at one point, our eyes meet, then after how many seconds they meet again. What could he be feeling/thinking? I wanted to know him and other Koreans I met as well, but I only have 2 days left to get their e-mail. I hope I succeed. Lord, please help me. Guide us. Thank you. :D

DAY 1: IYF World Camp 2010

I thought that today might be a nerve-whacking day for we would be dealing with foreigners (mostly Korean), and would cooperate with them. When I arrived at the Cuneta Astrodome, I found out that it wasn’t really hard to deal with them because they could actually speak Tagalog, for which I was really awfully amazed. The whole volunteering thing went from 9AM up to 9:30PM, and a word can’t describe it; it was more than AWESOME.

We were able to do this “getting-to-know-you” at one point, and I met Kim Soung-woo. He is a 20-year-old Korean volunteer who stays in India (for a year due to volunteering activity). I was quite stunned because these Koreans truly devote themselves in giving their hearts to other people, even if speaking in a foreign language and living in a foreign country might be hard. Anyway, he was also amazed that I could read and write in Hangeul (I wrote my name in Hangeul for him to better understand), he even asked for our mobile numbers to keep in touch. And soon afterwards, we met Chinese volunteer Tien-tien and more Korean volunteers like Ttong, Kam-soon, Ivan, and Son-hee. There were others I talked to but I’ll just get to know them next time! I need their e-mails! :P

We were actually put in the Academy class (which, I guess, has more Koreans than I thought) but we should’ve been in the Translators/Interpreters, but they removed it. So yeah, we mingled with them Koreans! They are so fun and nice and so adorable. It’s as if we speak the same language because we laugh at the same moment, react at the same moment, etc.

So yeah, the whole program was practiced for like, 3 times. I mean we saw the Gracias choir (they’re so amazing) practice once, then did a pre-opening stunt, then did the official one. They are so great! Also, the Righteous Stars did as well. Mr. Park Ock-soo is a good speaker, and was able to touch our hearts (even through his funny translator), and it seemed as if we Filipinos and them Koreans are all united. They aren’t really the bastos ones who do ingratitude, though sometimes they are kind of masungit, but in a tolerable way. :D We even saw a lot of Korean look-alikes of our classmates like Kevin, Paolo, and Mhar. It was so funny, and this guy who I’d call Kevin was really not good in speaking Tagalog and it all turned out to be funny, and this guy I’d call Paolo made me impressed at his translating skills, his oh-so-gorgeous voice, and his great English! And then this guy who was one of the Righteous Stars, he was so cute as well as the one who danced in L’Echo. Gaahh *drool*. I already have 3 Korean crushes, just on Day 1. I hope we get to know every Korean there well. ‘Til tomorrow!!
